Welcome to a view into my little world of art

I have had a love of art since my school days in Yorkshire and a passion for the remote beauty of the Scottish hills and coastline since moving to the Scottish Borders over 40 years ago.  Many happy hours among the Borders hills and on Skye have fed my imagination.  I rekindled my love of painting in earnest in 2003 in retirement from my career as a Nurse. I am entirely self-taught, the development of my skills being driven by a determination to do justice to our beautiful landscape. I have been fortunate to have my work exhibited in many galleries, often as a featured artist, with buyers both in the UK and overseas.

I have predominantly worked in soft pastel in both traditional and contemporary styles.  I continue to do so but I am constantly looking to push the limits of my imagination and my skills.  In recent years I have discovered the challenge and diversity of alcohol inks and most recently the intensity of detail achievable with the newly available lightfast coloured pencils.  During the long months of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, I continued to develop my skills with this medium which is particularly suited to animal portraiture.  My most recent work has me drawn back to the medium of soft pastel, exploring different approaches and a broader use of colour to interpret the landscape and nature.

I don't sell my artwork from my website, most of the works you will see on the following pages are either sold or on the walls of commercial galleries.  Sadly, in recent times several galleries in which I have had the good fortune to be an exhibitor have closed, some as a result of the pandemic and some due to the retirement of the owners. Online selling of artwork has become increasingly popular. I believe that there is no substitute for stepping into a well-displayed gallery, where you can get a real feeling of the artwork.

My apologies that I don't update these pages very frequently. If there is something you are particularly interested in please contact me and I can let you know whether it is still available, or maybe I can do a commission for you.

I don't produce prints of my work, each piece is unique.

The following pages show a very small selection of my works produced over the past 15 years.
